Courses Afloat

This is a new two day course aimed at the complete beginner who would like to try a sail but does not have the time or as yet been hooked with the desire to spend a full five days afloat.

This course provides the foundation to a good cruising crew. By the end of the course the candidate will have a good working knowledge on how the yacht operates, how to hoist, lower and trim sails. Some experience of steering at night, during the day and use of compass. Some of the jargon peculiar to yachts will have become clearer and there should be a greater understanding of the general orders given and ability to carry out a range of tasks.

Five Day: £530
Three weekends: £660

Provides a very important base for anyone wishing to become a skipper on their own or a charter yacht. The responsibilities and skills required to become a cruising skipper will be explained and practised on this course under the patient eye of the professional instructor.

Five day: £530
Three Weekends: £660

A short practical test to enable this certificate to be issued, necessary for sailing in foreign waters. Inland waters require a written test on the CEVNI regulations.

This follows on from the day skipper by looking at coastal navigation, tidal calculations, and skills needed out of sight of land and more detailed meteorology. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea are studied in detail. The student will be able to plan coastal passages and have the tools to navigate safely for the duration of the trip.

Five Day: £530

Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster examinations require an external examiner to come and sail with the candidate for a short period to evaluate their practical and theoretical ability at each level.
